I love any kind of watersports, well any excuse just to be in the sea really. Before Bali I’d only ever been on a wakeboard, never a paddle board but it turns out it’s was pretty chill in comparison, and it was something I could actually get @robyncaitlin involved it too 😂 Sadly I don’t think she’ll be as up for my 2021 plans as next year I really wanna get out and try surfing 🏄🏻‍♂️ The question is, where to try it???

I’m not sure about you but I’m pretty sure I’d give just about anything to have the sun back on my skin right and my feet back in the sand right now. I mean, technically speaking I could easily go and put my feet in sand but the sun part has definitely become a myth. Instead, I swear we’re down to about an hour of light per day 😂

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted on here again. There’s a multitude of reasons why that may be, but besides the obvious “Corona” vibes getting in the way, one of the main reasons was due to becoming so disheartened about my posts. It seemed it didn’t matter how much effort I put in to captions or how much I actually liked my photos, nothing ever changed in terms of engagement and reach.

BUT… life’s too short. There are clearly bigger things going on in the world right now and the world is definitely in a different place now. The truth is I actually enjoy sharing with people all of the incredible places I’ve been and the things I’ve seen. With any luck some of my posts may well inspire others to go see them too!

So, with that said, I’m back. Not sure how regularly and at no specific times, but for any of you who care I’ll be here, appreciating our beautiful little world and everything there is to do in it, starting off with some monkeys back in Ubud! Not going to lie, after reading a LOT about the place I was really nervous to go incase a monkey bit me but I’m still here, safe and well, with all of my extremities and it was an all round awesome experience! 🐒🐵 🐒

No trip to Ubud would be complete without a visit to the Sacred Monkey Forest. If you’ve been to Ubud before, you’ll know just how lively it is, with people and traffic constantly flowing all day long. From the moment you step inside the sanctuary though, all of the hustle and bustle of outside completely disappears and before you’ve even encountered a little Monkey friend, you’re immersed in a tropical forest-y paradise!🌴🐒🌴

This weekend I should be jetting off to Ibiza with some absolutely top lads, for my stag do. Sadly with everything that’s going on, that’s not going to happen. On the face of it I am genuinely gutted. I’ve wanted to go to Ibiza for the longest time but just never managed to get there. I love house music, the sun, sea and sand and to combine it with my stag was literal perfection. There’s also now the real chance I won’t get a stag do before my wedding. BUT… real talk…at the same time I’m ok with it. What’s happening with Covid-19 is serious and I couldn’t think of anything worse than jeopardising mine, my family or my friends health. As I said, I am gutted, really gutted. I’d much rather be on a beach with a beer but this is a time to rally together and heed the advice so that in the near future we can get back to normality and travelling again!

In the meantime, this weekend you’ll find me in my garden (which I feel so grateful we have), beer in hand and don’t be surprised if you hear my music. Shoutout to the boys who were coming with me and I can’t wait to rebook 😂🤙🏼🌴

Bali was my first taste of daytime beach/pool clubs and I completely fell in love. Ever since then whenever the sun comes out all I wanna be is chillin’ beside some kinda water, with a beer in hand and house music in my ears 🍺 🎵 The sad thing is, in a couple of weeks time I was meant to be heading of to Ibiza for the first time for my stag-do but sadly I guess they clubs will have to wait. 😢

For me it’s freedom. Until now I’ve definitely taken for granted the basic ability of leave the house and going anywhere or doing anything I want to (law abiding obviously!). I’ve overlooked just how easy it is to go and immerse myself in different cultures and explore incredible landscapes that aren’t just on my front door. Well that stops now; I really hope that from now on, I will properly value what freedom is and grab on to every last chance to experience something new. Stay safe out there guys and make sure you’re looking out for our incredible NHS! 🚨 .

After trekking to the peak the last thing we wanted to do was turn around and head straight back down but we’d never have got to see everything by staying put, no matter how amazing the view was, so down and onwards we went. I’m a morning person. Just ask @robyncaitlin. Much to her annoyance getting up early doesn’t bother me but I’ve gotta be honest, when we booked on to a Mt. Batur sunrise trek I wasn’t looking forward to a wake up call which closely resembled my bedtime 😂 BUT and it’s a big BUT, I have NEVER done anything more worthwhile in my life. After a 2 hour hike to the top I have never experienced anything so serene and beautiful as sunrise on a mountain top. .
I promise you when I say this, the wake up call may be off putting, but if you get the chance go and do this trek! You will not regret it!

Our first real taste of traditional Bali culture didn’t disappoint. After a day spent laying around at Finns beach club it felt good to head into the jungle and start to experience some real Balinese culture. Ubud palace was stunning and definitely one not to miss if you’re in the area!

Well trust me, I’ve found a place for you. In the run up to our Bali trip I’d seen so many beautiful places people had stayed on Insta and I was worried that none of ours would compare but oh how wrong I was. This place was a designers dream. I literally couldn’t find fault and it was super cheap! If you’re headed to Canggu, make sure you check this place out, you won’t be disappointed! 🛏

Almost forgot, this is also the first EVER hotel we’ve accidentally slept in at and missed the check-out time. The staff were totally cool with it but being woken up by why seemed like a dawn raid wasn’t the best experience 😂 I think of anything it shows just how amazing the bed was 😂

I don’t know about you but at one point I was definitely guilty of being a happy snapper. More concerned about getting every single angle of photo possible rather than taking the time to stop and appreciate what’s in front of me. At first I thought having a million and one photos was a good thing, because it meant I could always look back and see exactly what I saw but in hindsight the best part about memories isn’t just the visual, it’s the feelings, the sounds, the smells, none of which are contained within a photograph. SO, from now on photos come second to experiences and taking a moment to take it all in…

For the longest time I’ve always chucked all of my camera gear into a trusty @herschelsupply “Herritage” backpack. Now I use Herschel bags daily and I’ve beaten them up and trust me when I say they will take everything you can give them and more. BUT…
.
I started to realise that practically the Herschel bags weren’t right for travel adventures and camera gear. There’s no padded partitions to store gear, waterproofing or even any separate compartments and so it was time for something else. Say hello to my new weapon. The @gopro “seeker” backpack. This was actually a leaving gift from my guys at @wearefinally so I didn’t chose it but it is ideal. Super light, mad comfy, weather-resistant and has all of the room and compartments you could need. What’s more it looks amazing and unlike the bulky Herschel it’s really sleek and compact on my (rather slight 😂) back. My backpack game has gone from 0—100 REAL quick. .

Originally built in 1889 the Capilano Suspension Bridge is 450ft long and 230ft high and let me tell you, it’s incredible.

Before we headed to the park I was so stoked to see it for real. The photos I’d seen online made it look unreal. 1 or 2 people on this incredible structure at a time. Sadly as you can see from this picture, the reality is very different but that being said, it’s worth the busyness. The views and the nature are spectacular 🌲🌲🌲

I’m telling you now, Whistler was my favourite stop in Canada. I love extreme sports and the atmosphere and vibe around them and this place delivers in every way. On a different note, when I was younger I used to be a swimmer and then a basketball player (5ft8 giant and what) and I ALWAYS dreamed of becoming an Olympian. I couldn’t think of anything better. Sadly that never happened but being here in the Olympic village definitely allowed me to feel what it could have been like… ⛹🏻‍♂️🏊🏻‍♂️🥇

Being lost is always seen as such a negative thing. No one wants to be lost, you just wanna get from A to B without thinking about what passes you by in-between. But get off the beaten path and you’ll be amazed at what you might find. Take this picture, it would have been so easy to see the waterfall and then head straight back to the car but instead we went and found these awesome steps made between two steep rock walls. 🤙🏼👀🏔

There is something so mesmerising about waterfalls. If you’re ever in the Jasper area then the Glacier Skywalk is an absolute must see. I’ve stood on the glass platforms of so many landmark buildings, the Calgary tower not long before this for example, but being 918ft above the Sunwapta Valley and looking straight down was an altogether different experience. Trust me when I say, I’d go back again and again, in every different season if I could! 🏔🌲🏔

This is probably the closest I have ever felt to being on a different planet. The climate changed quickly and was harsh, it was super quiet when all of the buses stopped and most of all you couldn’t move anywhere quickly because it was dangerously icy. Who loves shooting with GoPro?
Keen eyed people may notice, this is the 2nd GoPro shot out of the previous 3 on my feed which is a rarity. I used to LOVE GoPro. I had the hero Black 3 and 4 I couldn’t get enough. They came everywhere with me, even doing a 365 picture a day challenge. Then I got the 5 and the love faded big time. Short battery life, a huge faff to set up and keep the WiFi connections and a picture quality that I didn’t think compared at all to the last 2 generations were just a few of my niggles. All of this meant I neglected it, sometimes not even packing it for trips. Truth is I miss it, there’s nothing that can capture more of you and the surroundings better than a GoPro so it’s time for a second chance. So, rant over, expect to see more super wide shots from this baby 😍🤙🏼👌🏻

This is a phrase I have ALWAYS dismissed. In my head, things happened because you made them happen and not because they were always going to but now I’m not so sure… As I’ve already said, on the day I proposed my entire plan had fallen apart and I was left thinking “oh shit”. All I could do was hope that our final stop would be a worthy place and I hadn’t missed out earlier in the day. We hopped in the car and Robs set the nav to stop at Peyto Lake along the way to our next hotel, at least she thought she had. The lake should have been a 45 minute drive from Lake Louise but an hour and a half later there was still no sign. I stopped and we checked the nav. It hadn’t been set. We were now 50km away from Peyto in the wrong direction. At this point we either carry on and miss the opportunity or we go back and I cross my fingers that it’s worth it. It was. As soon as we arrived I was in awe. I took Robyn on a slight (very steep) hike down to our own little vantage spot. No one around, just us and the view. Then my life changed. So many factors of that day to my mind went wrong but in the end everything worked out for the absolute best. It’s this reason I now believe that things do happen for a reason and sometimes you’ve just gotta roll with it… 🏔😍💍

I really hadn’t heard too much about Peyto Lake. Robyn was really keen to see it, saying it was meant to be amazing but like always I didn’t look anything up and just went along with it. The truth is that in hindsight I am so glad that I didn’t look anything up beforehand because after Moraine I didn’t think I could see anything more stunning but I was totally wrong. After parking up and taking a quick 10 minute walk to the summit, my first glimpse of Peyto Lake really took my breath away and left me completely speechless 😍🏔😱

Before we left for Canada I had it all planned. The day, the location, the ring and obviously the girl. Yeah I was a little nervous, but in my mind but I had this sorted. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The day came and for sentimental reasons Lake Louise was the location but as soon as we arrived at the lake I knew it wasn’t going to happen there. Now I’m not someone who gets phased easily but trust me, panic set in quick. After being at Moraine lake earlier that morning I got really frustrated with myself that I hadn’t just done it there, after all it was beautiful, but I remembered there was a plan for a reason and so I was right to have waited. Problem was my plan had now fallen apart and it was time to think on my feet…

Moraine Lake, you blew me away but it was time to head to Lake Louise. I’d heard so much about this place and how incredible it was said to be, so after Moraine I had such high hopes. It’s a lovely place, it really is, but I prefer places that feel almost untouched and Lake Louise couldn’t be more the opposite with its vast crowds and hotel almost at the water edge. I’m a BIG believer that what you see off the beaten track always surpasses what you see when you’re on it. Why? The element of surprise. When you’re at a tourist stop you know you’ve gotta look and you’re expecting a certain something. Dare I say it, I’ve been to many places and been disappointed. Wander off the beaten track and all expectations disappear. Everything is unexpected and that will change your view.

Remember my post yesterday? Me jumping for joy? Well this view right here is the reason why. When we booked a tour of the Colosseum we were gutted to have missed out on the underground tour which everyone talks about. Instead we opted for the Belvedere tour. All I will say is this is NOT to be missed. Just look at how amazing the view is over the Colosseum, away from the crowds. You can really imagine what it used to be like (oddly in what would have been the cheap seats!) 🏛🔥👀

Anyone else get straight on a city tour bus?
.
For me the first item on any new city’s itinerary is to get on a tour bus and take in the city. The bus gives you a higher viewpoint than pounding the streets on your feet meaning you see more and 9/10 times a tour bus hits most of the top attractions in the city along it’s route meaning you can sit back and quickly get your bearings rather than struggling with a map.

We’ve been with most of the different tour companies before but our favourite tends to be @citysightseeingworldwide. Sadly this time the route was less than ideal with big gaps between stops, long-ish wait times and key sight stops not really being that close which was a real shame. My advice; do your research before hand but I still swear by a tour bus to get to know a city!

I’m going to be honest. I fucked up. Well in my mind I did anyway. I spent some time yesterday looking back over the content I captured whilst in Amsterdam and was not happy. I sat there feeling like I’d got nothing and got really frustrated with myself that I’d wasted my opportunity. It would have been so easy to make excuses as to why this was the case and don’t get me wrong for like 5-10 minutes I definitely did that, but then it dawned on me… what happens is gonna happen and that’s just that. So, I’m going to use this as a learning experience. Next time, take @petermckinnon’s advice, plan more in advance and take more time. That being said I had a killer time with the boys and tbh maybe that’s just what I needed! 🤙🏻✌🏻👌🏻

Let me tell you, I love the Stedelijk museum, mostly because it has some original Wim Crouwel but there are 2 very different things to note about it.
-
1. The Stedelijk building is stunning. It’s an incredible fusion of the old and the new. Completed in 2012 it’s striking architecture is an absolute must see, and fun fact, designed by the same architects that created the Anne Frank museum.

2. Go there with no pre-conceptions. What you are going to see is weird, slightly sexual at times and you will 100% be left saying I could have done that. That being said, it is fascinating so go check it out…

People who know me will know how much I love a grid system and that is yet another reason why I love the big apple! There is simplicity in the block system. It makes navigation almost effortless. But the main reason I love the grid system of NY is in this picture. Here, we’re on the Highline on the Westside if the City and yet it feels like you can see straight down the road over to the East. You could be forgiven for thinking that this was just another luxury shopping mall, but that couldn't be more wrong. This incredible piece of architecture has been designed to look like dove taking flight and the glass down it's spine retracts to frame perfectly the freedom tower so that on a clear blue day if seems like a dream.
On September 11, the glass opens at 08:46—the time the first plane hit the Trade Center— and is positioned to frame the sun at 10:28, when the second tower fell.
Make sure you don't miss out on this whilst in NYC…

Click-bait much? I realised whilst looking though all my photos of New York that the fair majority of them are looking upwards because skyscrapers are the norm. It got me thinking that if you take everything at eye level and don't look around you would miss so much going on. You can take this pretty literally but in a deeper sense things come and go and the bad will come with the good so in the spirit of the freedom tower, always keep you're head up & keep going. They say don't meet your hero's because you'll always be disappointed and although the Brooklyn Bridge is by no means a hero of mine it was somewhere I had wanted to visit for a long time. We took the time to not only see the bridge but go over and hang out on the Dumbo area and all I can say is make sure you do. It's a killer area full of cafes, shops and places to chill. You'll be gutted if you miss it. 💭🚶🏻🤙🏼

Trust me when I say this was the most wet and cold I've ever been but it was probably one of the most spontaneously fun things I've done. Despite the pissing down rain we took a ski lift to the top of he mountain and hiked across it. Mega props go to my @canonuk EosM which got drenched but remained solid as a rock!

Bikers point, the highest point on the Großglockner road. Blink and you'll miss the turning and you'd be forgiven if you thought you weren't meant to drive up the little, cobble road in a car. Just keep going, it's an amazing feeling being enclosed by the clouds. Have you ever been high enough to be surrounded by clouds?

As far as driving goes I've never driven anywhere better. The mountains as a backdrop to incredible winding roads, it's no wonder why so many people want to experience the High Alpine Road. Although this was an incredible place to visit I went not just for the driving but also to pay my respects. In 2015 an old friend was taking part in a road rally when the vehicle he was in lost control and crashed. He lost his life doing something he was passionate about and although that doesn't make anything better it made me realise life is short, don't waste time or take anything for granted. Make the most of what you have and who you have around you 🤙🏼👊🏼❤️
